Introduction:
The advancement of technology and the luxuries
that it brings to us is very evident. The hype
to digitize information so that clients can have
a faster access to them. “A way of organizing
public management in order to increase efficiency,
transparency, accessibility and responsiveness
to citizens, through the intensive and strategic
use of Information and Communication Technologies
(ICT) in the inner management of the public sector
(intra and inter governmental relations) as well
as in its daily relations with citizens and users
of public services.” Is the definition given
for e- commerce services provided by governmental
agencies.” (Abstracted Dr. Dileepa de Silva
, June 21st 2004 E-government)
There pose certain issues and risks that evolve
with the use of such technologies there are endless
possibilities in which they can be encountered
some of the issues are given below.
• Security
• Auditability
• Scalability
• Efficiency
• Reliability
• Integration
• Acceptability
• Cost
• Anonymity
Most sites use the user name password way of
authenticating the process of identifying people.
In this case scenario in which the IRS has to
deal with a number of people, the use of ones
social security number and a PIN number to verify
the whole process. There are number of other process
that can be used to authenticate this process.
Some of these methods are given below.
1. “Trust authentication
2. Password authentication
3. Kerberos authentication
4. Ident-based authentication
5. PAM Authentication”
(Abstracted, Authentication methods 2004)
There are many risks involved for the webmasters
who control the websites face a number of difficulties
and risks. Some of the risks that are posed to
people who are in such position are the DoS attacks.
DoS means Denial of Service attacks, the hacker,
manipulates the website by making sure that everything
looks good on the server end but the client faces
the problems of website being inactive or disabled.
Other problems that are faced are entire websites
being hacked and personal information is viewed
by unauthorized people.
The answer to the above problems are very complex
as technology grows so will the mind of hackers.
One positive step would be to stop the use of
all Microsoft ® as the number of hacking static’s
show that a number of hacking that is done globally
most Microsoft based products are being the center
of all attacks. Switching to more securer based
systems would prove to be very fruitful. Sun Solaris,
Linux are just a few of the most reliable software’s
around. The reason that Microsoft ® applications
are not safe is due to the fact that their products
are very easy too understand both on the client
as well as on the server based side. Linux ®
& Sun Solaris ® both are quite reliable
and you don’t find many people using them
everyday. Hackers in these applications are rare
and most probably are already hired by these companies
to help them further strengthen their applications.
