Introduction
The combination of human imagination and technology
can do wonders in this world. The day is not too
far when we can decide the traits of our progeny,
and create both male and female gender in a single
unique being. However this unique creation cannot
reconcile the conflicts of age old gender and
marriage polemics
Analysis
Human imagination is commendable. When human imagination
combines with technology, it can attain anything.
The Mars exploration is a classic example of this
combination. Human beings have not only experimented
with the nature, but they have also tried many
ways to further evolve them. Many such experiments
have resulted in resolving their concerns. Each and every aspect of human being is controlled
by genes present in their chromosomes. Permutation
and combinations of genes can make drastic changes
in human beings. Hence, man has made extensive
studies on genes with the help of technology.
Genetic technology has made the impossible, possible.
Genetic technology has helped us create clones.
Genetic engineering which is another branch of
genetics has curbed many genetically inherited
diseases. Genetic engineers are conducting studies
on creating super humans with desired traits by
manipulating genes [Dr. Bohlin ,2000]. Genetic
technology in future may help us decide the gender
chemistry of human beings and create a unique
being that is a combination of both male and female
gender characteristics.
Human beings have 46 chromosomes of which 44
chromosomes are called Autosomes and the other
2 chromosomes are Sex chromosomes. Autosomes decide
all other characteristics in a human being except
the sexual characteristics. Sex chromosomes decide
the gender in a human being. Sex chromosomes may
be homogametic or Heterogametic. Homogemetes have
XX chromosomes while heterogametes have XY Chromosomes.
Females have XX chromosomes while male has XY
chromosomes. The gender of a human being is determined by
the XY chromosome. If X part of XY chromosome
fertilizes with X part of XX chromosome, then
a female progeny is produced. On the other hand,
if the Y part of XY chromosome fertilizes with
XX chromosome then a male progeny is produced.
Let’s imagine a scenario where gene mutation
alters this ideal situation and we are able to
decide the gender chemistry of our progeny. Hypothetically,
if I am a parent of this unforeseen future organism,
then I would create a unique being. This unique
being will have both male and female gender characteristics
in 1:1 ratio. I would choose genes which determine
the physical strength of the male gender and the
reproducing capacity of a female gender. Men have
more physical strength than their women counterpart.
Women have the capacity to reproduce while male
lacks this trait. When these two combinations
are induced together in this unique being, then
this super human being would be one of its kind.
Besides these two gender characteristics I would
also decide to induce genes that determine intelligence
in human beings.
If the above hypothetical situation exists wherein
each human being could decide the characteristics
of their progeny then we would have different
kinds of such unique beings. In spite unity in
duality, there would still be variations in such
unique beings because each human being would decide
to have male and female gender in different ratios
for creating their unique progeny.
There would still be gender differentiation.
In such unique beings as well depending on the
male and female gender ratio the perceived notion
of men being superior than woman would continue
because of the difference in male and female gender
ratio. Marriage is not just a social binding to
have babies. However, human beings get married
because they form an emotional bond with their
companion. If unique beings could be created by
human beings, the same level of philosophical,
spiritual, and social values would still exist
in them .Marriage is imperative in such a society
because each unique being would still need a companion.
It's a known fact that man is social animal. In
a modified being only the sexual characters are
changed. The emotional content will only become
more intense because gender modified emotions
will be more in this being.
